Claim to fame
Before Chester Gregory was cast as novice cop Eddie Souther (aka “Sweaty Eddie”) in the soulful Broadway musical Sister Act, he originated the roles of Dupree in Cry-Baby and Terk in Tarzan and took over the role of Seaweed J. Stubbs in Hairspray. Pre-Broadway, Gregory wowed audiences—and Hairspray producers—as the exuberant title character in the touring production of The Jackie Wilson Story.
