Meet Carol, one of the regular theatergoers that was chosen to be a part of the Broadway.com Word of Mouth panel for the 2011-2012 theater season!
How far do you live from Broadway?
I live in Pennsylvania, about two and a half hours away by car.
What do you do for a living?
I'm a cosmetician and also dress bodies for funeral homes.
What's the best part about your job? And the worst?
I love the creativity and attention to detail involved in transforming a person who has been through pain and trauma and making them as presentable as humanly possible to be seen by their loved ones for the very last time. The worst part about my job is when there is no way to accomplish a perfect presentation.
Who first exposed you to Broadway?
Rosie O'Donnell had excerpts from The Lion King on her show many many years ago and I knew I needed to take my kids to see it. I called girlfriends and organized a trip and I've been organizing trips to Broadway ever since.
Any special childhood theater memories?
We were way too poor to go to New York to Broadway when I was a little girl. A friend took me to the Valley Forge Music Fair to see The Sound of Music when I was in grade school and I have been obsessed with live theater ever since.
What do you love about Broadway?
There is nothing in the world like live entertainment. Anything can and does happen. There is no opportunity for touch ups or retakes, it's just in your face, happening now, winner takes it all!
Have you ever acted? Had aspirations of being on Broadway yourself?
I always loved to dance and sing and was involved with community theater many years ago. Of course I wanted to be a Broadway star. Doesn't everyone?
Who do you like to go to the theater with and why?
I've turned my husband into a bit of a Broadway lover, but my girlfriends are more fun because we dissect everything later!
What are some of your all-time favorite Broadway shows?
Wicked is absolutely number one! I still cry over some of the songs. Phantom, Legally Blonde, Jersey Boys, Cats, Lion King, Chicago, Memphis... I could go on and on!!!
Why should Broadway.com viewers listen to your opinion?
Because I see almost all of the shows, I don't love them all but I definitely don't agree with most critics which makes me question myself sometimes. I view shows not necessarily from an intellectual level but from the emotions I experience. To be a critic is only to have an opinion and I definitely have my own so why not listen to me?!
What was your reaction when you found out you'd been chosen for the panel?
First of all I was shocked and then absolutely thrilled!!!!
