Vanities Sets Pre-Broadway Run at Pasadena Playhouse

The new musical version of the 1970s off-Broadway hit Vanities as set a pre-Broadway tryout run at the Pasadena Playhouse, opening on August 29, 2008, according to Variety. The production is then aiming for a fall opening on Broadway, direcged by Judith Ivey. No casting has been announced.

Vanities, which features a book by playwright Jack Heifner and music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum Summer of '42, Party Come Here, follows the lives of three women from their days as high school cheerleaders and best friends in Texas in the early 1960s through college and into their 30s in the mid-1970s. The original off-Broadway production played more than 1,300 performances. The musical verswas first produced in summer 2006 at TheaterWorks in Palo Alto, California.

Junkyard Dog Productions and Bartner/Jenkins will co-produce the Pasadena production before taking it to Broadway.
