In Be by Mayumana, Israeli Troupe Makes U.S. Premiere at Union Square
They've been globe-trotting for a decade, but the Israeli performance troupe known as Mayumana has never performed in the United States until now. In their new show Be, which operned at the Union Square Theatre on March 13, the company's 14 performers, variously, play world music on nontraditional instruments (sticks, pipes, etc.) as well as weave movement and dance (modern to free-style to traditional-based ethnic dances) into a 90-minute theatrical tapestry. Welcomed by several Broadway notables on their opening night, after the curtain calls, the sexy, young company partied at Manor on West 13 Street. Check out the scene.
