Purple Pops the Cork with Splashy, Starry Opening Night

Everything on Broadway was coming up purple at the December 1 opening of the new musical The Color Purple, adapted from the landmark novel by Alice Walker. Following bows at the Broadway Theatre, the cast--led by the beloved LaChanze--and a cavalcade of celebs gathered at the New York Public Library to celebrate the occasion. Cultural icon and inspirational public figure Oprah Winfrey, who produced Purple (and appeared in the 1985 Steven Spielberg film based on the book), was there with bells on (not to mention a splash of purple in her attire). Take a look at the glittering crowd at this splashy opening night affair!
