David Hyde Pierce stars in the revival of Samson Raphaelson's clever comedy.
The cast of the first Broadway revival of Samson Raphaelson’s comedy Accent on Youth, which premiered in 1934, hosted a meet and greet with the press in the Manhattan Theatre Club’s rehearsal space on March 12. Starring David Hyde Pierce, Mary Catherine Garrison, Charles Kimbrough and David Furr, the play follows Steven Gaye, a playwright who is on the brink of abandoning his latest script, when his young secretary inspires him to complete it. But while staging his new work for Broadway, Gaye soon discovers his secretary is inspiring someone else—the show’s leading man! “Complications ensue,” as director Daniel Sullivan wryly remarked, adding that Raphaelson’s screwball antics are undercut with more than a little sadness.
