The previously reported West End production of The Book of Mormon is eyeing a home at the Prince of Wales Theatre in early 2013, according to the The Daily Mail. The production was originally planned for a late 2012 bow. The Prince of Wales Theatre’s current occupant, Mamma Mia!, will transfer to the Novello Theatre in early September 2012. No casting or dates have been announced at this time.
The Book of Mormon follows two mismatched missionaries who are sent to Uganda to spread word of their religion. Upon arrival, however, the duo realize their training hardly prepared them for the unsettling realities of African life.
Featuring a score and book by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone alongside Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon opened on Broadway on March 24, 2011. The musical, which is co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.
