Story

What Is the Story of Freud’s Last Session
Freud’s Last Session takes place in the London study of Dr. Sigmund Freud on the day England entered World War II. The aging and ill Freud has invited to his home a young C.S. Lewis, who expects to be taken to task for satirizing Freud in his recent book. During the course of this (imagined) meeting, these two fierce intellectuals get to know one another as men, not icons, as they butt heads over issues like love, sex and the existence of God.

Should I See It?

What Is Freud’s Last Session Like?
Far more than just a pair of talking heads having an academic debate, Freud’s Last Session is an exploration of how seriously funny an encounter between an avowed atheist and a staunch believer can be, without ever taking sides on the subject. These two can’t help but needle one another so the intellectual sparring comes fast and furious, but it is interspersed with more quotidian discussions of health, family and life during wartime, which keeps the single-act evening from getting bogged down in the weighty matter at hand.

Is Freud’s Last Session Good for Kids?
A debate over the nature of faith is awfully heady stuff for youngsters, so while there is no really objectionable content, be prepared to discuss heavy issues like the rationality of belief and the morality of suicide. Those with any interest in theological topics will enjoy the ride, no matter what age.
