A new musical based on the classic novel by Edna Ferber.
What is the Story of Giant?
Giant is an epic new American musical that spans three decades as it chronicles the life of Bick Benedict, a Texan cattle rancher, his socialite wife, Leslie, and rival oilman Jett Rink. Bick and Leslie’s enduring marriage frames a larger portrait of the state of Texas, a vast landscape filled with greed, bigotry, money, power, clashing cultures, death and birth. With a book by Sybille Pearson and music and lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa, Giant brings the great state of Texas to life like never before.
What is Giant Like?
Next to Normal director Michael Greif helms this sweeping production of Giant, which clocks in at three hours and 15 minutes in telling a multi-layered story of one family’s trials over generations. The show features a company of 22 actors and a 17-piece orchestra, with a country-infused score that includes soaring ballads and spirited ensemble numbers. Giant employs an appropriately epic production design to tell its grand story of family life in the massive state of Texas.
Is Giant Good for Kids?
At three hours and 15 minutes, Giant will cause some squirming among little ones, unless they find themselves enraptured by sprawling epics about life in Texas. The show is light on dancing and heavy on ballads, so it may not be the right choice for children.
