About Golden Child

What Is the Story of Golden Child?
Set in Fujian, China, in 1918, Golden Child is the story of a polygamous family as told through the eyes of Eng Ahn, a 10-year-old girl. When Ahn’s father Eng Tieng-Bin returns home after three years of working abroad, his three wives are thrilled to see him. But when he arrives bearing strange Western gifts like a waffle iron and a phonograph, his first wife Siu-Yong and second wife Luan are suspicious. Eng Tieng-Bin begins to favor his young third wife, Eling, sending his entire family into a panic. As Eng Tieng-Bin considers converting to Christianity and transitioning to a one-wife household, all three wives wonder what will ultimately become of them.
