About the Show

Lauren Kennedy is headed off-Broadway in the new musical 'Good Ol' Girls.'

Lauren Kennedy (Spamalot, Vanities) and Sally Mayes (She Loves Me, Urban Cowboy) are among the cast set for the off-Broadway premiere of the new musical Good Ol’ Girls. The show will begin previews on February 8 and open on February 14 at the Black Box Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, directed by Randal Myler.

In addition to Kennedy and Mayes, the cast will include Teri Ralston (Company), Liza Vann (Machiavelli) and Gina Stewart (TV’s Dawson’s Creek).

Good Ol’ Girls features a book by prominent Southern novelists Lee Smith (The Last Girls) and Jill McCorkle (Going Away Shoes), adapted by Paul Ferguson. The score is by Nashville hit-makers Matraca Berg and Marshall Chapman. Described as a musical about love, loss and laughter Good Ol’ Girls celebrates Southern womanhood from childhood through old age, with big hair and bigger hearts.

The creative team includes sets by Tim Mackabee, costumes by Michael Bevins, lighting by Brian Nason and sound by Lew Mead for Syntonic Design. Bluegrass picker/ songwriter Joe Newberry and actress/ musician Julie Oliver adapted and arranged the music. Keith Levenson is the musical supervisor of the show’s four-piece band.

Good Ol’ Girls is apparently not related to Roundabout Theatre Company, which opened the black box theater below the Laura Pels Theatre in 2007 as “Roundabout Undergound.” White Sand Entertainment (Ken Denison, executive producer) is listed as the producer.
