About the Show

Sitcom star and game show personality Jim J. Bullock will replace Jerry Mathers in Hairspray. He will start performances in the role of Wilbur Turnblad on Tuesday, September 18 at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Bullock formerly appeared in the Broadway company of Hairspray in various roles including Harriman F. Spritzer, Mr. Pinky and the high school principal. He also understudied the role of Wilbur, and later played the same part in the national tour of the show. Off-Broadway, he was seen in the play End of the World Party. Regionally, Bullock has appeared in When Pigs Fly, The Rocky Horror Show and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. On TV, he appeared for six seasons on the '70s sitcom Too Close for Comfort, co-hosted The Jim J. and Tammy Faye Show with Tammy Faye Messner and was a regular presence on Hollywood Squares.

Hairspray also stars Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad, Paul Vogt as Edna Turnblad, Ashley Parker Angel as Link Larkin, Lance Bass as Corny Collins, Darlene Love as Motormouth Maybelle, Niki Scalera as Penny Pingleton, Ashley Spencer as Amber Von Tussle, Michele Pawk as Velma Von Tussle, Tevin Campbell as Seaweed J. Stubbs and Susan Mosher as Prudy Pingleton and others.

Mathers will play his final performance as Wilbur Turnblad on Sunday, September 16.
