About This Gallery

A solemn candlelight ceremony took place outside the Walter Kerr Theatre on April 21, as Tovah Feldshuh, playwright Dan Gordon and the cast of Irena’s Vow joined with members of the Broadway community to commemorate Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day. Feldshuh is currently starring as Irena Gut Opdyke, a Polish Catholic who risked her life to save 12 Jewish refugees during World War II by hiding them in the home of a prominent German major. The actress, a previous recipient of the Israel Peace Medal, addressed the crowd at the moving pre-performance event. Take a look.
