About It's Only a Play

What Is the Story of It’s Only a Play?
It’s opening night of The Golden Egg, the latest comedy by rising playwright Peter Austin, and his rich-but-inexperienced producer is throwing a star-studded celebration at her East Side brownstone. On hand are Peter’s best friend (a wisecracking TV star who was supposed to return to Broadway in the show), the play’s flamboyant, drug-addled leading lady and bratty British director, a blowhard theater critic and a starry-eyed coat check attendant who has just arrived in New York. This nutty collection of first-night partygoers keeps crossing paths in the producer’s sumptuous bedroom as they wait for the all-important judgment of the critics.
