Story

What Is the Story of The Landing?
Composer John Kander and lyricist/librettist Greg Pierce's chamber musical features three thematically linked vignettes. In “Andra,” a companion-less boy bonds with a carpenter renovating his family's kitchen. In “The Brick,” a lonely housewife falls in love with a charming fellow cloaked in 1920s gangster regalia. And in “The Landing,” a gay male couple adopts a seemingly perfect son. Each story tackles some of life’s biggest issues, like hope, love, loss, betrayal, fantasy and death, and all include interesting twists.

Should I See It?

What Is The Landing Like?
The Vineyard Theatre’s production of The Landing makes the most of its 90-minute running time, giving theatergoers the opportunity to immerse themselves in three emotional stories. John Kander and Greg Pierce’s score is often impressive, and the four-person band is top-notch. The show’s ensemble—David Hyde Pierce, Julia Murney, Paul Anthony Stewart and Frankie Seratch—play different characters in the three mini-musicals, ably directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie. The Landing goes down like a mug of warm apple cider.

Is The Landing Good For Kids?
The show includes some adult themes but nothing too offensive, frightening or inappropriate. The Landing is not recommended for children under 10.
