David Cromer’s acclaimed Chicago production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town has found a home in New York at the Barrow Street Theatre. Cromer stars as the Stage Manager in the play, which is set to begin previews on February 17 and open off-Broadway on February 26. No other casting has been announced.

Our Town, the first production in a new collaboration between Jean Doumanian Productions and Barrow Street Theatre, will result in what’s being called “a complete redesign of the theater space.” Cromer directed and starred in the play for Chicago’s Hypocrites Theatre in April 2008 in a basement space at the Chopin Theatre. In his production of the Wilder classic, which has just celebrated its 70th anniversary, the action takes place in, among and around the audience.

Cromer’s production of Austin Pendleton’s Orson’s Shadow played the Barrow Street several seasons ago, and his production of the musical Adding Machine won numerous awards last season. He has just been announced as the director of revivals of Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound, which will play in rep on Broadway during the 2009-2010 season.

Our Town will feature set design and props by Michele Spadaro, and lighting design by Heather Gilbert.

Doumanian and Barrow Street Theatre operated by Scott Morfee and Tom Wirtshafter are currently collaborating on Barrow Street Fortnight2, a three-week celebration of new improv, sketch comedy, music and solo shows.
