About the Show

For the second year in a row, casino mogul Steve Wynn has snapped up the Best Musical Tony winner for his Vegas casino. Spamalot will open at Wynn Las Vegas in 2007 upon completion of the custom built "Spamalot Experience and Grail Theatre," which will be designed by Spamalot set and costume designer Tim Hatley and show creator Eric Idle.

Lovingly "ripped-off" from the internationally famous comedy team's most popular motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail. According to production materials, it features "a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights with legs, killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas." The show won 2005 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Director for Mike Nichols and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Sara Ramirez.

While Avenue Q will not tour as long as the show remains open in Vegas, Spamalot is hitting the road as promised. It will launch its national tour next March in Boston, although, according to the Associated Press, the tour will not play California, Nevada or Arizona due to the terms of the producers' agreement with Wynn Las Vegas.

The Associated Press also reports that the tuner will be shortened to 90 minutes for its Vegas run. Avenue Q, which bows in late August at Wynn Las Vegas, is one of the few musicals not being trimmed to 90 minutes before it hits Sin City. Spamalot will be performed 12 times a week with tickets prices ranging from $80 to $100.
