Story

What Is the Story of Tigers Be Still?
Tigers Be Still is about Sherry Wickman, a young woman who earns a Mmaster’s degree in art therapy only to end up unemployed and living at home with her depressed sister who drinks on the couch all day and her mother who won’t come downstairs. Sherry is sinking with them until a ray of hope shines through: a job. She gets hired to teach art by the principal at a local school (and once upon a time, her mother’s prom date), and he also hires her as a therapist for his teenage son Zach. She helps both of their families regain their footing as she finds her own. As Sherry puts is, “This is the story of how I got out of bed.”

Should I See It?

What Is Tigers Be Still Like?
Tigers Be Still is a funny four-hander that runs just over 90 minutes with no intermission. It’s a production of Roundabout Underground (Roundabout Theatre Company’s black box space), so don’t expect the excess of a Broadway show. Sherry occasionally pauses to address the audience, but the show generally sails through its two-person scenes at a very steady pace and blends laugh-out-loud humor with much darker themes like depression, grief and the loss of a parent.

Is Tigers Be Still Good for Kids?
Language alone rules Tigers out for younger kids, as do the aforementioned themes and a character that drinks through 90% of the show. If four-letter words aren’t a concern, the show’s issues of growing up and finding one’s place in the world may be of interest to teenagers.
