David Pittu's Smell Gets a Sweet Opening at the Atlantic

Familiar Broadway face and consummate character actor David Pittu, a veteran of shows like LoveMusik and The Coast of Utopia last seen in 2007's Is He Dead?, is back onstage—and he's sending up musical theater while he's at it. His hilarious What's That Smell: The Music of Jacob Sterling opened at Atlantic Theater Company on September 10, kicking off the Atlantic's Stage 2 season. The comedy, which is penned and co-directed (along with Atlantic Artistic Director Neil Pepe) by Pittu, covers the career of fictional self-proclaimed genius Jacob Sterling, a third-rate musical theater composer who can't understand why his tunes (like the title song, "What's That Smell") aren't up there with Sondheim and Schwartz. Co-starring Peter Bartlett and featuring Brandon Goodman, Matt Schock and Helene Yorke, the show runs through September 28. Click here to meet the minds and talents behind the Smell!
