British stage star Simon Callow will bring his one-man show Being Shakespeare to London’s Trafalgar Studios from March 7 to 31, before hopping the pond for two stateside engagements. After closing in London, Callow will perform the play, written by Jonathan Bate and directed by Tom Cairns, at the previously announced Brooklyn Academy of Music from April 4-14 before heading on to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre from April 18-29.
In Being Shakespeare, Simon brings to life Shakespeare’s unforgettable characters as well as the real man behind the legend. The play ran in the West End last summer, following a hugely successful tour and staging at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010.
Callow is best known for his roles in films like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare in Love, A Room With a View and The Phantom of the Opera. His London stage credits include The Mystery of Charles Dickens, which he also performed on Broadway, as well as Dr. Marigold & Mr. Chops, Twelfth Night and Waiting for Godot.
