Jared Gertner
Jared Gertner is the new star of 'The Book of Mormon'.

The Book of Mormon understudy Jared Gertner will assume the leading role of Elder Cunningham in the Tony-winning musical on June 7. Original star and Tony nominee Josh Gad left the production on June 6 to star in the new NBC sitcom 1600 Penn. The Book of Mormon's other Tony-nominated star Andrew Rannells will depart the production on June 10.

Featuring a score and book by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon follows two mismatched Mormon missionaries as they are sent to Uganda to spread their religion. Upon arrival they learn their training may not have quite prepared them for the many challenges they are about to face.

Gertner has appeared on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and as Gad’s understudy in The Book of Mormon. He has also appeared onstage in Forever Plaid, Ordinary Days and Little Shop of Horrors.
The Book of Mormon continues to run at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre.
