'American Idiot' is heading to the big screen in a new documentary.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and the cast of Broadway’s American Idiot are heading to Austin! Broadway Idiot, a new documentary featuring Armstrong and the cast on the road to the Great White Way, will premiere at the Texas film and music festival South By Southwest. The festival officially kicks off March 8 and will run through March 16. Specific screening dates for Broadway Idiot have not yet been announced. Directed by Doug Hamilton, the new film documents the behind-the-scenes world of American Idiot, including footage from rehearsal, opening night and more.

The original Broadway cast of American Idiot starred John Gallagher Jr. as Johnny, Michael Esper as Will, Mary Faber as Heather, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Whatsername, Christina Sajous as The Extraordinary Girl, Stark Sands as Tunny and Tony Vincent as St. Jimmy. The ensemble included Declan Bennett, Andrew C. Call, Gerard Canonico, Miguel Cervantes, Joshua Henry, Brian Charles Johnson, Leslie McDonel, Chase Peacock, Theo Stockman, Ben Thompson, Alysha Umphress and Libby Winters. Joshua Kobak, Lorin Latarro, Omar Lopez-Cepero and Aspen Vincent served as swings.

American Idiot tells the story of Johnny and Tunny, two jaded young men who try to escape their stifling suburban life, while their friend Will stays at home to work on his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend. American Idiot was directed by Michael Mayer, with a book written by Armstrong and Mayer. American Idiot features hit Green Day songs including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Jesus of Suburbia, 21 Guns” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” The musical originally opened on Broadway on April 2010. It earned two Tony Awards (for set and lighting design), and an additional nomination for Best Musical.
