Tony Award winner has signed on to play Clytemnestra in the New York premiere of Charles Mee's Iphigenia 2.0, the first production in Signature Theatre Company upcoming Charles Mee series. Directed by Tina Landau, the play begins performances on August 7 at Signature's Peter Norton Space and will play through September 30. Opening night has been set for August 23.
Iphigenia 2.0 is about a great imperial power that decides to go to war, taking an action so wrong that it sets the empire on the road to complete self-destruction. Agamemnon, the leader of the Greek army, must prove to his uncertain troops that the dangerous battle they are about to undertake is righteous and worthy by making the ultimate sacrifice himself. Mee's radical reinvention of the classic play by Euripides examines the costs of war and loss of innocence.
Clark, who won a Tony Award for The Light in the Piazza, most recently played Sally in the Encores! staging of Follies. Her other Broadway credits include Urinetown, Titanic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, A Grand Night for Singing and Guys and Dolls.
The design team will feature sets by Blythe R.D. Quinlan, costumes by Anita Yavich, lights by Scott Zielinski and sound by Jill BC DuBoff.
