Hispanic television and film star Sofia Vergara will make her Broadway stage debut as Matron “Mama” Morton, cellblock diva extraordinaire, in the hit revival of Chicago. Vergara will perform at the Ambassador Theatre for a five-week limited engagement starting April 27 and running through June 7. She will take a one-week break from Broadway, May 26 through May 31, to perform in the show’s national tour engagement in at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami.
As the host of Hispanic television programs such as the talk show La Bomba and and her own weekly show A que no te atreves I Dare You, Vergara has been watched by more 100 million viewers around the world. In the U.S., she’s appeared on Entourage, Chasing Papi and Dirty Sexy Money, as well as ABC’s upcoming pilot for An American Family.
On film, Vergara appeared alongside Tim Allen and Rene Russo in the comedy Big Trouble, and was recently seen in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns and Madea Goes to Jail. Her other movie credits include The 24th Day and Four Brothers.
On March 24, Chicago will become the seventh longest-running production in Broadway history, surpassing Rent with 5,125 total performances to date.
