About the Show
Jugglers! Flying guitars! Giant wigs! Airborne acrobats! Crazy clowns! Those are just some of the zany acts on display at the Beacon Theatre, where Cirque du Soleil’s newest spectacle, the vaudeville-tinged Banana Shpeel, opened on May 19. After an energetic first performance, Shpeel’s cast of clowns headed over to the Roseland Ballroom for a wild after-party. (No word on if the clowns all crammed into one car to get there!) At the Shpeel shindig Danny Rutigliano, who plays the show’s master of ceremonies Schmelky, and his co-stars talked to Broadway.com about the joys of performing in the unpredictable Cirque environment and…of course…they couldn’t resist the urge to clown around on camera. Take a look!
