Story

What is the Story of The Snow Geese?
The Snow Geese is the emotional and vivid story of Elizabeth Geasling, a widow who is coping with the recent death of her devil-may-care husband as her family gathers at their hunting lodge in upstate New York in the fall of 1917. It's the beginning of snow geese hunting season, and Elizabeth’s sister, Clarissa, and brother-in-law, Max, a German doctor driven out of Syracuse in the fervor over World War I, are living with her. Also on hand are Elizabeth's sons Duncan, a Princeton grad who's about to ship off overseas wtih an elite regiment, and Arnold, who has discovered that his late father left the fmaily penniless.

Should I See It?

What is The Snow Geese Like?
Depleted family fortunes, parental favoritism, sibling rivalry, prejudice against German-Americans during World War I, the horrors of war and the struggle to overcome grief are at the center of Sharr White’s new Chekhovian play. Elizabeth Gaesling, played by Tony and Emmy winner Mary-Louise Parker, is a woman who is flawed, delusional and forced to reckon with losing the life she’s become accustomed to. Victoria Clark and Danny Burstein, as Parker’s sister and brother-in-law, and Evan Jonigkeit and newcomer Brian Cross, as her sons, turn in strong performances as a family embroiled in hardship and changing times. Daniel Sullivan’s direction and John Lee Beatty’s elegant set establish an appropriately dramatic tone.

Is The Snow Geese Good For Kids?
No. Although there is no nudity or violence, The Snow Geese contains adult themes and some language that is inappropriate for children. The production may be a good choice for older, mature teens, but see The Snow Geese first to determine whether the adult subject matter is appropriate.
