It’s not every day that theater lovers get an inside look at the latest play from a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Lynn Nottage’s By the Way, Meet Vera Stark is in rehearsal at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre, and Broadway.com photographer Jenny Anderson was invited in for an exclusive behind-the-scenes shoot. Drawing from screwball comedies of the 1930s, the play takes a 70-year journey through the life of African-American maid and budding actress Vera Stark (Sanaa Lathan) and her tangled relationship with her boss, a Caucasian movie star desperately grasping to hold on to her career (Stephanie J. Block). When both women end up landing roles in the same Southern epic, the behind-the-cameras story leaves Vera with a surprising and controversial legacy. Director Jo Bonney and an all-star cast that also includes Tony winner Karen Olivo, Tony nominees Daniel Breaker and David Garrison, Kevin Isola and Kimberly Hebert Gregory will star in Nottage's play beginning April 6.
