Broadway’s smash hit The Book of Mormon will open across the pond at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre in March 2013, according to The Daily Mail. The theater's current tenant, Mamma Mia!, plans to vacate the theater and take up residency at the Novello Theatre in September. The West End production of Mormon intends to cast British actors in the roles of Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, created on Broadway by Tony-nominees Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad.
The Book of Mormon follows two mismatched missionaries who are sent to Uganda to spread word of their religion. Upon arrival, however, the duo realize their training hardly prepared them for the unsettling realities of African life.
Featuring a score and book by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone alongside Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon opened on Broadway on March 24, 2011. The musical, which is co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.
