Next Fall follows a five-year gay romance with one nagging issue: conflicting views on faith. When tragedy strikes one of them, the other must examine his own beliefs as well as questions from the couple’s friends and family.
Though the playwright grew up without organized religion in his life, Nauffts has said the play grew out of his fascination with faith.
The play premiered off-Broadway in a Naked Angels production at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre in June 2009 with the same five-member cast that went on to bow on Broadway in the show.
Produced by Elton John and David Furnish, Barbara Manocherian, Richard Willis, Tom Smedes, Carole L. Haber/Chase Mishkin, Ostar, Anthony Barrile, Michael Palitz, Bob Boyett, James Spry/Catherine Schreiber, Probo Productions, Roy Furman Naked Angels
Other Honors for This Production:
—Broadway.com Audience Award nomination for Favorite New Broadway Play
—Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Play
—Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding New Broadway Play
—Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Production of a Play
