Porter plays the dual roles of the outlandish drag queen Lola and the vulnerable and insecure Simon, who together inspire and creative a line of Kinky Boots, women’s shoes for men.
Porter has appeared in featured roles in the musicals Miss Saigon, Grease, Five Guys Named Moe and Smokey Joe’s Café. His off-Broadway credits include Angels in America and Ghetto Superstar. He’s released two albums and appeared in the films Twisted and The Broken Hearts Club.

Porter was almost cast as the Witch in the 2002 Broadway revival of Into the Woods. The role eventually went to Vanessa Williams.
