A Beauty of a Closing for Disney's First Broadway Hit

The mood was bittersweet inside the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on July 29 as the cast of Beauty and the Beast took their final bows. But nobody can say the show went out with a whimper: For months, Disney's first Broadway musical played to capacity crowds eager to see Belle and the Beast fall in love one more time before another Disney princess takes over the premises (Ariel in The Little Mermaid, headed for Broadway in November). The closing night crowd gave the cast—including guest Gaston Donny Osmond—several standing ovations, then took a short walk to Cipriani 42nd Street for a celebration that continued long into the night. As always, Broadway.com was on the scene to provide a front-row view of all the festivities. So long, Beauty!
