A Match Made in Heaven: Whoopi Goldberg and Xanadu
There was magic in the air on July 29, at the Helen Hayes Theatre as daytime talk show host and all-around funny lady Whoopi Goldberg descended from Mount Olympus to return to Broadway in the campy hit musical Xanadu. Goldberg is temporarily replacing Jackie Hoffman in the outrageous role of Calliope, playing the part through September 7. After a sold-out audience loudly whooped in approval of Whoopi's return to the stage, the cast celebrated their newest addition at the theater, with stars Cheyenne Jackson and Kerry Butler and scribe Douglas Carter Beane leading the welcome wagon.
