A Parade of Stars Salute Edward Albee at New Dramatists

For an organization dedicated to the playwright, the New Dramatists couldn't have chosen a better recipient of their Lifetime Achievement award this year than Edward Albee. The winner of three Pulitzer Prizes (plus three Tonys as well), the man who was reared in the theater (Grandpa Edward Franklin Albee was a major vaudeville producer) has dedicated his life to making up stories for the stage that have continued to challenge and dazzle us ever since he first hit the boards—with his 1962 Broadway debut, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. With his profound impact on the creative trajectory of American playwriting, it was no surprise to us that a wide range of New York theater notables showed up to shake his hand and congratulate Albee at the New Dramatists' luncheon at the Marriott Marquis on the afternoon of May 17. Check it out.
