The
Gypsy of the Year competition is one of the Broadway community's favorite annual events—and it's not hard to see why. The big-scale talent show, in which the casts and crews of almost every Broadway (and even some off-Broadway) production sings and dances for a good cause, is always a hoot. This year, castmembers from
Urinetown did a hilarious sketch that won them the talent portion. The event also signifies the end of a fundraising period for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Once the final numbers were tallied,
Hairspray came out the champ, raising a record-breaking $375,655 for the cause. The grand total for all shows combined? A whopping $2,623,825! How you like them apples?!
