The National Alliance of Musical Theatre celebrated its Annual Festival of New Musicals’ big 2-0 on October 19. Rather than just singing “Happy Birthday” and calling it a day, NAMT celebrated the big anniversary with an entire evening of song at presented by some of Broadway’s best at club Comix. Stage vets Will Chase, Tony Award winner LaChanze, Gavin Creel, Stephanie D’Abruzzo and more lit up the stage during the benefit concert, titled A Toast to 20!, which featured songs from former Festival shows including The Drowsy Chaperone, Honk!, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Vanities, among others. All proceeds from the event, hosted by Tony Award-winners Bob Martin and Beth Leavel, went to the not-for-profit NAMT, ensuring that there’ll be plenty of new shows on the horizon.
