Violet premiered at Playwrights Horizons in 1997 and almost instantly attracted a cult following among musical theater lovers. And it's easy to see why--the musical, about a young girl with a scar who seeks salvation during a cross-country road trip, featured a rousing score (by
Thoroughly Modern Millie composer Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley) and a terrific theater cast. About half of the original cast (including the fabulous Lauren Ward as Violet) reunited for the Playwrights concert series, which Broadway.com caught on the Saturday matinee on January 18.
