Pamela's First Musical Gets an All-Star Staging for BC/EFA
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS posthumously presented Tony Award-winning composer Cy Coleman and Pulitzer Prize winner Wendy Wasserstein's collaboration at Town Hall on May 18, producing the pair's Pamela's First Musical for a heartfelt benefit performance starring goddess Donna Murphy as well as Lynn Ahrens, Sandy Duncan, Kathie Lee Gifford and Joel Grey, among many other glitterati. The show, adapted from Wasserstein's 1996 children's book about a young girl's first Broadway encounter, began years ago when lyricist David Zippel contacted Wasserstein about staging her creation. Lincoln Center and Cy Coleman jumped aboard, but the sad 2004 death of Coleman, followed by the tragic loss of Wasserstein to cancer in 2006, canceled the show's scheduled West Coast premiere. Zippel was proud to finally present the lovingly crafted show, the proceeds of which went to BC/EFA and Wasserstein's Theatre Development Fund's Open Doors Program. Afterward,
