Sondheim’s Road Show Hits the Streets with Big Opening at the Public
John Weidman and Stephen Sondheim’s Road Show put down roots off-Broadway on November 18, officially opening at the Public Theater to an audience anxious to see the latest incarnation of the fully retooled production. Road Show, which began as Wise Guys in a 1999 NYC workshop before being reworked as Bounce in 2003, may have gone through several titles and musical numbers before reaching its current destination, but the story remains the same: brothers Wilson and Addison Mizner (played by masterful Sondheim muses Michael Cerveris and Alexander Gemignani, respectively) travel the globe in search of the American dream, leaving their mark on the world (and rustling up more than enough trouble in the process).
