The cast of Spring Awakening joined the Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack (OBP, as it's called) on July 9 for a signing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. The occasion promoted OBP's prime directive: encouraging citizens to collect and fill backpacks with school supplies for donation to homeless children in the New York City area. The Spring kids are one of the faces in OBP's latest public-awareness campaign, which you'll soon see on buses and phone kiosks through the city, and they came brandishing pens and ready to sign posters for anyone willing to donate a cool $20 to OBP. What's more, Coldstone Creamery set up shop and gave out free ice cream to the first 100 participants. Now that's way cool!
