What Drama! Catching Up with the Winners of the 2008 Drama Desk Awards
Another milestone in the 2007-2008 awards season was reached on May 19 as Broadway assembled at Lincoln Center's LaGuardia Concert Hall for the annual Drama Desk Awards. Big winner South Pacific took home five awards, the most of any show this season. Close contenders August: Osage County, Passing Strange and Gyspy also did well, garnering three Drama Desks apiece. Winners including Mark Rylance (Boeing-Boeing), Deanna Dunagan (August: Osage County) and Laurence Fishburne (Thurgood) got plenty of attention too, winning individual acting accolades in their categories. And did we tell you about Gypsy's trio of talented winners? Need we say more than Patti LuPone, Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti? The ceremony, hosted by the cast of Broadway's forthcoming [title of show], concluded with plenty of hobnobbing, congratulations and, of course, pictures!
