The adventurous LAByrinth Theater Company begins its 15th season with a new play by Stephen Belber (Tape, Match, The Laramie Project). A widow named O living in Washington, D.C., is trying to figure out whether life is worth re-engaging with. In her path are the 1968 riots, the first Gulf War, the Freedom of Information Act—and herself. The cast of characters in A Small, Melodramatic Story also includes an archivist, a cop and a kid. Throughout the action, a question looms: Just how much truth about anything does anyone really need to know? Known for his vivid dialogue and political themes, Belber teams up with one of off-Broadway's most talked about companies to present this new work.
