In this charming musical comedy from the 1950s, Ella Peterson is a Brooklyn telephone answering service operator who tries to improve the lives of her clients by passing along bits of information she hears from others. Through her daily wake-up calls, she falls in love with dashing playwright Jeffery Moss, one of her clients. She's intrigued by the voice on the other end of the line, but afraid to meet him because he thinks she's a lovely old lady. When they finally cross paths, her career--and love life--take dramatic turns.
