About Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

What Is the Story of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof?
Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is the story of a Southern family forced to face the issues they have bottled up inside. Set in the bedroom of a plantation home in the Mississippi Delta, the play tells the story of rich cotton tycoon Big Daddy Pollitt, who is about to celebrate his 65th birthday and is distraught over the troubled relationship between his beloved son Brick and Brick's determined wife Maggie. Brick is an ex-football hero who has turned to drinking, and Maggie yearns for a more fulfilling life and the security of knowing that she and Brick will inherit the Pollitt estate. (Brick's brother Gooper and his wife Mae have other ideas.) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof explores the relationships within a family whose stifled social and sexual behavior bubbles over in startlingly dramatic ways.
