What Is the Story of Happy Now??
Happy Now? centers on Kitty, a 40ish Londoner at the end of her rope. She’s juggling a demanding job, a husband who has given up a lucrative career to become a teacher, two young children, needy friends, a passive-aggressive mother and an absent father who lurches from one medical crisis to another. As she tries to keep all her balls in the air, Kitty finds herself asking, “Is this my life? My one and only life?”

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Happy Now? Like?
This smart comedy by British playwright Lucinda Coxon begins with a scene in which a stranger makes a pass at Kitty at a professional conference. Their encounter echoes through the play, as Kitty reflects on her difficult parents and begins to actively resent her husband and their often-unlovable friends. A talented ensemble of seven perform on an almost bare stage, lending the play a dreamlike quality in spite of its contemporary subject matter. Happy Now? will appeal most to audiences who can identify with characters in the throes of trying to “have it all.”

Is Happy Now? Good for Kids?
This is a play for and about grown-ups. The language and themes aren’t appropriate for kids, and teens won’t be interested in the midlife trials and tribulations of the characters.
