Finally! Three long years after taking home a richly deserved Tony Award for The Color Purple, Broadway favorite LaChanze is back on the NYC boards in Playwrights Horizons’ production of Inked Baby. Up-and-coming playwright Christina Anderson has written an ambitious drama about a surrogate pregnancy, with a subplot about the effects of environmental toxins, and LaChanze couldn’t resist the chance to take on a dramatic role at the theater where she triumphed in Once on This Island and The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin. After the opening night performance on March 23 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, the Inked Baby company partied at West Bank Cafe. As always, Broadway.com was there, too.
