We already knew that Gavin Creel could command a stage, proven by Tony nom for his first role on Broadway as Jimmy in Thoroughly Modern Millie and a head-turning performance as Jean-Michel in the revival of La Cage aux Folles. But who knew he was so funky fresh too? Creel fans were treated on March 7 to Prom King, a full evening of the charismatic star's original music (with a sprinkling of some 80's covers), the first in a new series of Monday night concerts at Second Stage. Creel (with the help of some special friends) mixed together his unique brand of "acoustic pop with a fun and funky edge," passed out tiaras to the entire audience and even hosted a surprise onstage marriage proposal for one of his backup singers!
