McReele (Off-Broadway) Story

Intrigue, morality, and social responsibility converge in this gripping new production from the Roundabout Theatre Company. McReele chronicles the exoneration and rise to political power of inmate Darius McReele, who was on death row for nearly eighteen years on a murder charge, then freed thanks to an investigation by journalist Rick Dayne. Darius's sympathetic past and magnetic personality make him a darling of the lecture circuit, leading to national attention and political viability. With his past and future in the balance, Darius walks the line, as questions resurface about McReele's involvement in the 18-year-old murder and Rick seeks to determine which way he'll ultimately fall. Playwright Steven Belber (Match, Tape, The Laramie Project) once again delivers a powerful drama that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Anthony Mackie, who starred in last season's Drowning Crow, takes on the title role, and Doug Hughes, a Tony nominee for his work on last season's Frozen, takes the reigns as director of this limited engagement.
