What Is the Story of Silence! The Musical?
Silence! is a musical parody of the 1991 Oscar-winning movie The Silence of the Lambs. The show offers a comedic twist to the story of FBI agent-in-training Clarice Starling as she begins interviews with a convicted cannibalistic murderer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in hopes of tracking down a serial killer on the loose. Starling believes Lecter may have information about the unknown criminal. A former psychologist, Lecter only agrees to help Starling if she is willing to discuss her troubled childhood.

Critics’ Reviews

Pungent, punchy and raunchy, with a sheepish chorus to boot, the consummately silly 'Silence!' will leave you stuffed and wanting mutton more.

Review by David Cote from Time Out New York

As reverential of its source material as it is gleefully subversive, 'Silence! The Musical' is a hell of a lot funnier than it has a right to be.

Review by Frank Scheck from The New York Post

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Silence! The Musical Like?
In the tradition of spoof films like Scary Movie, Silence takes the serious story of the original film and plays it for over-the-top laughs. The show remains faithful to the original movie’s storyline and musicalizes many of the most memorable moments. Comedic additions have been added to up the camp factor, including singing lamb narrators, dream ballets and sassy sidekicks. Much of the humor comes from the actors’ exaggerated performances of the well-known roles.

Is Silence! The Musical Good for Kids?
This show is definitely not appropriate for children. The original Silence of the Lambs movie is gruesome and the musical is no different. Not only are violent acts performed in the stage version, they actors also sing about them. The many songs feature lyrics about cutting up victims, genital odors, bodily fluids, animal abuse and many other raunchy topics.
