The floor was covered in snow. The winds were so fierce you couldn’t keep your eyes open. But at least it was cozier inside than it was outside! As the weather in NYC dipped down to the low 20s, the clown-packed cast of
Slava’s Snowshow made its official Broadway bow on December 7, blasting so much white confetti into the aisles that anytime the theater’s front doors opened, small flurries escaped up West 44th Street. And making a fine mess of the Helen Hayes Theatre, the circus-like gang hung up their clown costumes (floppy hats, threadbare overcoats) and donned their eveningwear (hooded sweatshirts, turkey hats) for an opening night hootenanny at the Zipper Tavern on West 37th. And hoot they did. As we were leaving, the whole gang was standing in a circle, swaying in unison and singing along to the Gorillaz’s “Clint Eastwood.” Rock on,
Slava’s Snowshow!
