A Bloody Good Opening for Sweeney Todd

The hyper-talented stars of Sweeney Todd took their opening night bows at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 3 to a thunderous ovation. John Doyle directed the unconventional staging of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's dark and delicious musical, which features the cast (led by Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone) singing, dancing and playing their own instruments. This goes beyond any idea we might have previously had of the the term "triple threat." After the rousing performance, the company headed to the Copacabana to toast their Broadway opening. Cheers!
